Trinity Presbytery's Migrant Ministry

Trinity Presbytery's Ministry to migrant workers currently has two locations at work: one in Lexington County holds a weekly meeting at the Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church, and one in Newberry County at Aveleigh Presbyterian Church.   Both locations have volunteers from many churches helping with the ministry.

The following is a Mid-season report from Jenah Cason,  the Migrant Ministry Intern for 2008:

June 25, 2008
Migrant Ministry Mid- Season Report

The Lord has blessed up with a prosperous Migrant Ministry this year.  Approximately 200 migrant workers are living in the camps in Batesburg-Leesville!  Participation among the migrant workers has been good, with an average of 60 coming every week.  Last week, we had 67 migrant workers in attendance.

Not only has the Ministry been a success regarding the number of migrant workers participating, but also the number of volunteers.  About 20 volunteers from Saxe Gotha and the community come every Tuesday night to help with the Ministry.  The volunteers have been pivotal in the success of Migrant Ministry.  They have collected several donations, including international phone cards, socks, t-shirts, toiletries, caps, etc.

We were able to bring two of the migrant women to Saxe Gotha’s worship service on Sunday.  They really enjoyed the message.  Hopefully, more will accompany us to worship in the following weeks.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those churches that offered to sponsor a meal this year.  We look forward to the chance to fellowship with you!  I would also like to thank those churches that have give donations to Migrant Ministry.  We have a list of items that is beneficial to the workers if any other churches are interested in offering donations.

May God continue to bless this ministry!

Migrant Ministry In Newberry County

(This is information about the Migrant Ministry program for 2007)
It has been a year of growth, fun, and fellowship for the Migrant Ministry program in Newberry County.  Be sure to read the report by Josue and Selene Ortega.  Click here to see what they have to say about this wonderful outreach program.

Aveleigh Presbyterian Church continues their outreach to the Hispanic community in Newberry County.  The pictures below are of a recent activity.

Josue reports that the ESL classes are going well despite a recent break.  Previously, the classes had been comprised of mostly Guatemalan and Honduran nationalities.  But recently, more Mexicans have taken advantage of these classes.

A formal soccer league has been formed in Newberry County.   Look for upcoming pictures of games!
