The Broken Church |
Several months ago, a small group of our pastors and youth
leaders started visualizing an emerging church worship
gathering taking place in Trinity Presbytery. They talked
about the possibilities and how the Christian message
would be expressed to appeal to unchurched people who may
have alternative views on life or religion. Their efforts
have resulted in The Broken Church, an
experiment in presenting the truth of God's love in Jesus
Christ in a casual setting that invites all to a
relationship with Jesus Christ. You are invited to
explore what our colleagues are envisioning and pray
for The Broken Church's first gathering on
November 6th.

Over 50 Retreat a Success |
Members of 12 churches in our Presbytery gathered for the
Over Fifty Adult Retreat at Camp
Fellowship last week. Doug Vaughn led
the Bible study, and worship leaders were Alice
Ridgill and Danny Murphy. I. Lehr
Brisbin shared his wealth of knowledge about our
environment. He brought baby alligators and a beautiful
rat snake! Service projects were a big part of our time
as well, making items for overseas mission. This year, we
collected items to make hygiene kits to send to
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. The group
assembled 128 kits with left over supplies that will be
sent to various mission projects near home and abroad.
In addition, we received over $200.00 in donations to help
defray cost of shipping and buy needed supplies. A special
thank you to all the churches that helped to make this
service project a great success!
With Joy & Thanksgiving,
Nora Hope, Interim Associate for Education &
Leadership

Penny and Alan Arnold would like to thank
everyone for their prayers during the surgery on Penny's
daughter, Rebecca Berk. Rebecca recently underwent very
serious surgery. It was touch and go at times, but the
doctors were able to correct the problem. Rebecca and her
family live in San Francisco. She continues to regain her
strength and looks forward to a full recovery. Penny
related that the prayers were certainly felt and very much
appreciated.

YAM Jam |
 |
YAM-Jam is an event for
people seeking creative ways to be in ministry with young
adults and college students in the PCUSA, and is sponsored
by PACHEM and the Office of Collegiate Ministries, PC(USA). The
classic problem facing young adult ministry in the PCUSA
is feeling isolated from the rest of the denomination.
As our church adjusts to issues of culture and structural
changes, YAM-Jam is a way to bring those who care about
young adults together to share, learn, worship, and play.
To do that successfully, YAM-Jam needs to include a
variety of people-you included! Those folks who work with
youth - whether it is in churches, colleges, young adult
groups - will benefit tremendously from this event. So
plan now to attend May 27-30, 2009 at
Austin Presbyterian Seminary and be sure
to
visit their website....>>>

A Joyous Time! |
 |
|
The Presbytery meeting was privileged to be
a part of the Chartering of New Kirk Presbyterian
NCD. More than 40 charter members accompanied
Rev. Scott Bowerman to the meeting to request that they
become a full-fledged church. It was a very emotional
part of the meeting with much joy, smiles, hugs and
tears. This coming Sunday (October 19th)
everyone is invited to come to Sandlapper
Elementary School at 1001 Longtown Road in NE Columbia at
4:00 p.m.to witness the Chartering of the
Congregation and the installation of Scott
Bowerman as the first Pastor. If it is anything like what
was experienced at the presbytery meeting, then you will
want to be a part of it. Truly, the Holy Spirit was
present then, and surely will be, as this new congregation
begins their life as New Kirk Presbyterian CHURCH! Thanks
be to God!
